Being a first-generation immigrant myself, I know how overwhelming it can feel to navigate college and professional spaces without having the informal guidance that others seem to have. That is why my first priority is to work with campus services so that first-generation and immigrant students can access more support and resources on campus, especially culturally competent mental health support.

One of my first priorities would be to partner with Aggie Reuse to organize a professional attire donation drive, increasing the range of available professional clothing. This would expand access to business attire for students who may not otherwise be able to afford it. I also wish to advocate for educational materials that clearly explain dress codes like business casual and business professional. These resources would be posted in student centers, at Aggie Reuse, and on Instagram so that the information would be easy to find. I also want to ensure that ASUCD continues to push for full compliance with SB 98 (SAFE Act), which requires public institutions of higher education like UC Davis to inform students, faculty, and staff of the presence of immigration enforcement. No student should feel unsafe while attending lectures, discussions, or other activities on campus. Alongside this, I also wish to uplift legal clinics and financial aid advocacy/workshops that work to break down the systemic barriers impacting first-generation and immigrant students

I also aim to improve outreach. There are so many incredible opportunities on campus, but often students never hear about them. I want to strengthen the connection between ASUCD, RSOs, and students so that opportunities are more apparent to students. I want to better utilize the ASUCD events calendar on the website by streamlining the submission process and maintaining regular communication with ASUCD units, commissions, RSOs, and campus resource centers to keep the calendar consistently updated so students have one central place to see what is happening on campus each month. I also want to post a monthly digital infographic version of the calendar on Instagram for fast access.

Lastly, I really hope to spotlight the diversity of Davis by partnering with cultural organizations and centers on campus to create an inclusive environment for community building. I am also devoted to collaborating with the UC Davis Mental Health Initiative and Student Health and Counseling Services to ensure students have access to culturally competent mental health support. Additionally, I will work with RSOs to increase funding for cultural events that bring our campus together and foster unity across diverse communities.

I want UC Davis to be a place where access, opportunity, and support are equitable for all students, so vote Afra Sadeghi for senate so that this vision of Davis can become reality. Let me be your SAWT (voice) so that I can amplify the voices that are too often overlooked.
