Hey Davis!

My name is Frida Sol Alvarez and I am running to be your next ASCUD senator. I am currently a second year double majoring in Chicana/o/x Studies and Political Science. I was born and raised in North East Los Angeles and have familial roots in Mexico. Moving to Davis I was given the opportunity to truly embrace the intersection of my identities and feel represented through initiatives such as Casa Cuauhtemoc, visits to El Centro, and seeing senators like Senator Garcia and Martinez take up space and organize events such as banda night.

Although this representation matters tremendously, true change and reformation can only happen when communities coalition build with one another. I have studied and seen firsthand the possibilities of what can happen when people who hold identities that seemingly have no intersection are given the space to actually communicate with one another. As your senator I will create open safe spaces for true cross cultural solidarity to revitalize campus culture.

My community on campus is the reason for which I feel called to represent students at the senate table. I am running to be your representative not to simply make my ideas a reality but to make sure that your needs (both basic and otherwise) are met not because of your status as a student but because you are human and have every right to be holistically seen and cared for by this institution.

As your senator I commit to the following:

Advocate for Basic Needs: I will push for the advertisement of Aggie Basic Needs, increase aggie aid, and create a meal swipe donation program for those that struggle with food insecurity. I will support efforts such as all4yolo to ensure funding goes back to our community members who are in need of these resources.

Work with on campus departments and organizations to expand impact: By working closely with the Student Community Center & El Centro I will aim to mitigate the effect of budget cuts and work with these campus departments to focus on expanding the impact of CAN Counselors.

Provide easier access to RSO’s: On the Senate table I will advocate for equitable funding for all student organizations. Additionally, I will support not only established student organizations but also newly founded organizations and ensure they have the tools needed to cultivate a campus that truly supports every student's interest.

Revitalize community: I aim to support all students at Davis and pledge to advocate for those who more often than not are underrepresented such as commuters, student workers, and students of color. I will push ASUCD to work with activist organizations to help us find tools that will help to foster solidarity and ensure students work together rather than against each other.

As students we will ensure we all have the knowledge needed to move forward.

Vote Frida Sol Alvarez #1 for ASUCD Senate!
