Mia Oscanoa
Hello! I'm Mia Oscanoa, and I will be running for Student Senate because I believe in working to make our UC Davis campus a happier and healthier place. A campus where every student feels nourished and more connected. From my time at Davis, I have come to realize just how much our everyday campus experiences shape our college lives. This begins from the food we eat, to how we get around, and the sense of pride we feel when walking around campus.
My priority is to work to create more nutritious food options at the Dining Commons (DC). Food is the fuel for student success. I want to advocate for a variety of nutritious and well-balanced meals at the DC. This would include better plant-based options and a wide variety of whole food meals. Students should not have to be limited to a small number of nutritious food options and be overwhelmed with the amount of easy and convenient food options. By working with dining services, I will push for options that will not only satisfy but also be instrumental in supporting physical and mental health.
I will also work towards promoting school spirit and culture. Working to build an even stronger campus culture and fostering Aggie pride is what keeps our community alive. Whether it's through spirit weeks, collaborations with organizations and clubs on campus, or events that highlight student talent and diversity, I want to help strengthen school spirit and culture. When we feel proud of our campus and connected to each other, that's when everything else begins to improve as well, from morale to student success.
Another objective I have is to work on making biking an easier mode of transport all throughout campus and expand bike routes, improve lighting, and create more accessible paths that connect key parts of campus. Everyone on campus deserves a safe and sustainable way to move around, whether it is biking or walking.
All in all, I'm running because I care about the day-to-day lived student experiences. The things that make college life not just manageable, but meaningful. Vote for me so we can collectively create a campus that's healthier, more spirited, and better connected!
