Every year, candidates run on transparency. Every year, ASUCD remains as unclear as before. This needs to change. ASUCD has more power than any other student government in the country. But time and again they fail to make themselves accessible to the student body. How many students know the Club Finance Council lost 30,000 dollars in funding this year? That the Pride Festival funding was cut in half? Or the threats to The Aggie to stop physical prints? All this while some senators, who scarcely pass meaningful legislation and can’t be reached by students, continue directing funds toward their own interests. A more efficient and active student government could change this.
That's why I'm running for Senate.
As Senator, I will allocate more funding for student clubs, so we won’t have to compromise when it comes to community. I won’t allow a single dime to be cut from our incredible transit services, so you can continue to commute quickly and affordably. I’ll fight for the arts and humanities on this campus, so we can keep our festivals and culture alive. Lastly, I'll mend the branch between students and senators to keep ASUCD accountable and accessible.
Many valuable things have been cut from this year's budget, but some of what was kept just doesn't make sense. Your senators do not need to be spending 7000 dollars on senate meeting food. I believe that a student government funded by students should work for students. Once elected, I'll reallocate wasteful spending directly toward student needs. That means more money for clubs, cultural programs, and new art on campus. I'll create a physical weekly update on senate legislation, so you will know where your tuition is going. I want to rebuild trust by making student government something you can actually see working for you, every week. ASUCD doesn't have to be a mystery. We don’t have to settle for a Senate that can’t even be bothered to hold required office hours or check their email. We don’t have to settle for senators who see their position as resume padding and don’t put in real work. You deserve better. Don't let your student fees go to waste on people who don't put your money first. Vote 4 a senator that listens. Vote Nate.
