Aaron David Heth
Hi everyone! My name is Aaron Heth and I'm running to represent you in the ASUCD Senate. I'm a third-year transfer student from Santa Rosa Junior College studying political science. As a transfer student, I believe I come from a unique perspective and am motivated to serve my fellow Aggies.
I'm running for ASUCD for three primary reasons: making Unitrans better, bike paths more accessible, and our campus culture safer through inclusion.
The first of these goals has to do with our Unitrans system. I'm concerned with a few aspects of it, which I think every student has experienced. My primary concern is the timelines and speed of the routes. I live out in West Davis and need to take the K or D bus to get to campus, yet quite often, the bus is late to arrive and doesn't get to campus at the scheduled time. This makes it difficult to ensure many students arrive to campus on time. My solution that I have in mind is a two-pronged approach. First, we need to prioritize funding for this critical system. It appears that Unitrans might not have the resources to provide for our needs in a timely manner. Second, I want to bring in public transit experts from cities where the buses are on time much more. In Budapest, for example, where some of my family comes from, the buses are on time almost always and you can rely on a pre-determined schedule to know when your bus will arrive. That's what I want Unitrans to be like.
My next focus has to do with UC Davis's bike paths. We have an awesome bike infrastructure at the moment, with room to expand. In the ASUCD Senate, I want to be your advocate when it comes to this vital infrastructure, and push for more attention to this critical component of Davis. The University is currently working on a Sustainable Transportation Plan, something which I am passionate about and want to support. I have experience working with Transportation Committees and will make sure that our bike (and pedestrian) facilities only get better!
Lastly, I want to focus on fostering a culture of campus inclusion. I think all-too-often many students feel isolated and as if they don’t belong. Highlighting resources that help students with these issues, such as mental health resources, and also looking at ways for the ASUCD Senate to support such resources is a critical mission of mine and something I will make sure to focus on.
Thank you for considering ranking me, Aaron Heth, #1 for ASUCD Senate.
