The foundations of a good community are people feeling seen, heard, and valued. I hope to create a welcoming environment here at Davis by making spaces where students of all backgrounds and beliefs can be seen. I want students to connect with peers to gain the feeling of belonging just like I have. My connection to inclusivity was strengthened when I started an advocacy group against injustices when I was in high school. I not only wanted to amplify the voices of those who were victims of discrimination, but I also wanted to cultivate an environment where those around me could feel free to be themselves without the ridicule of others. The experience I gained from the club has heavily shaped how I lead today, with empathy while prioritizing inclusivity. As a transfer student, I value community and collaboration. I hope to encourage more people to come out and meet their fellow peers through events, shared spaces, and welcoming conversations. As a student advocate my goal will be to build a better community through showing up, listening and working together. Let’s build our community one story at a time.
